Playing gunked-up, Stooges-smeared garage rock, forked tongue planted firmly in stubbly cheek, Spinout were a dumbed-down art prank gone wondrously wild. Band mates Geezer M.Lightcap (guitar), Scooter (bass), Izzy Cane (drums) and singer Ronnie Joe Brown (the spiritual son of Molly Hatchet singer Danny Joe Brown) wore Levi's, leather, and the occasional truckers cap bearing the helpful motto Don't Cry Girls I'll Be Right Back. Spinout holds the precarious honor of being the only group ever to record an album in Matt Dike's Echo Park mansion that actually saw the light of day: 1991's self-titled Spinout. In a post-breakup article in the Los Angeles Free Times, Scooter summed up the band's appeal when he called Ronnie Joe a "sort of redneck freak who wanted to be Elvis." The band's single "Trunk" actually make it onto MTV, where it managed to offend the seemingly unflappable grunge girl group L7. Emission accomplished!
