KENYATTA

KENYATTA

With his chiseled features and natty locks, Jamaican-born soul singer Kenyatta was first spotted by Delicious Vinyl co-founder Matt Dike during a late night jam session at the now-defunct 1980s Hollywood nightclub The Rhythm Lounge. Kenyatta entered the studio to record a sleigh bell jingling rendition of Leon Haywood's lascivious classic "I Wanna Do Something Freaky To You." Released in early 1990, that single was the first instance of Delicious Vinyl branching out from hip-hop to making soul records. Kenyatta later added his dulcet delivery to both Def Jef's "Get Up 4 The Get Down" and Tone-Loc's cruisin' jam "Funky Westside".
